René Cuperus

René Cuperus, Director of International Relations at the Wiardi Beckman Foundation

René Cuperus was born in 1960, and studied politics, cultural history and cultural anthropology in Groningen and Lisbon. He was policy advisor to the chairpersons of the Dutch Labour Party Felix Rottenberg and Ruud Vreeman. After that he worked for the Wiardi Beckman Foundation, a think tank of the Dutch Labour Party, as a research assistant and wrote for the magazine Socialism and Democracy. He is also the co-founder of the organisation Scholars for European Social Democracy, a European network of center-left think tanks. He is a member of the Research Group of the Foundation for European Progressive Studies (FEPS). Cuperus was secretary of De Boer Commission, who examined the policy direction of the Labour Party. Cuperus is director of International Relations and senior researcher at the Wiardi Beckman Foundation. He is also a columnist at the daily newspaper de Volkskrant.
