Justin Wedes
Justin Wedes, Educator & Social Justice Activist
Justin Wedes is an educator and activist based in Detroit, Michigan. A graduate of the University of Michigan with degrees in physics and linguistics with High Honors, Justin began his career teaching truant and low income youth in subjects ranging from science to media literacy. He went on to help found the New York City General Assembly (NYCGA), the group that brought you Occupy Wall Street. In 2012 Justin founded the Paul Robeson Freedom School in Brooklyn to teach social justice history to a new generation of young activists. Now back in his native Detroit, he helped lead the charge against Detroit's water shutoffs in 2014 and is planning the launch of the Detroit Free University. In May, 2015, he left the leadership of this group to spin off a new community organisation called Detroit Workers and Builders which trains and employs Detroiters fixing Detroit's blighted homes, public buildings and infrastructure
