Robert Schütte

Dr. Robert Schütte, Chairman of Genocide Alert & Policy Fellow at Das Progressive Zentrum

Robert Schütte studied political science at the University of Cologne, Science Po Paris, and Harvard University. In 2007 he founded the human rights organisation Genocide Alert. In 2013, Robert Schütte finished his doctoral thesis on the protection of civilians in armed conflicts at the University of Cologne. Subsequently he was engaged in projects at the German Academy for Technical Science concerning future power systems and platforms for dialogue on an energy turnaround. For one year he had been serving as policy advisor to the party executive of the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD), before becoming the personal policy advisor to the State Secretary at the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety until January 2016. Since January 2016 Robert Schütte is advisor to the secretarial staff for refugee policy, and since May 2016 he additionally serves as advisor to the Department for Social City, Promotion of Urban Development, and European Social Fund (ESF). He is currently chairing the human rights organisation Genocide Alert, and is a policy fellow at the think tank Das Progressive Zentrum in Berlin.
